Corsicana
Bedding Inc. (CBI) was established in
December 1971. The original name was Tipton
Manufacturing, Inc. The company was located
in Corsicana to supply the great demand of
furniture and bedding for the mobile home
manufacturers in the area. The original plant
was located on South Main in Corsicana,
Texas.
In 1974, the company moved into a new 24,000
square foot facility located in Corsicana,
Texas. As the
economy changed, the company expanded to
include production for the retail furniture
and bedding stores. By the end of 1978, it
was evident that manufacturing bedding, such
as mattresses and box springs, for retail
stores was more beneficial for the company.
At this time the name was changed to
Corsicana Bedding, Inc.
The
company continued to grow until the mid
1980's. In 1987, CBI expanded its sales area
from 150-mile radius to an area that included
Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana,
Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and all of
Texas.
Currently, the plant is a 144,000 square
foot, state of the art facility that houses
computerized machinery, conveyors, and a bar
code tracking system. The plant is capable of
producing 4,000 pieces per day on two 10-hour
shifts.
Recognizing the significance transportation
plays in limiting or shaping the avenues of
growth, Corsicana began developing their own
long haul trucking operation. Corsicana
Bedding owns it's own fleet of trucks &
trailers to serve it's customers.
In 1996
CBI opened a plant in Shelbyville, TN. After
two years of rapid growth, the plant moved
into a 96,000 sq. ft. facility.
This
facility also has state of the art equipment
and a fleet of trucks to deliver product to
customers. This plant is capable of producing
4,000 pieces per day on two shifts. This
plant services the states of Tennessee,
Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia,
Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Missouri. This
plant has now expanded to 140,000 sq. ft.
In 1999 CBI opened a distribution center in
Harvey, IL to serve the greater Chicago area,
Michigan, and Wisconsin.
In 2001 CBI opened a distribution center in
Rancho Cucamonga, CA to serve southern
California, Nevada, Utah, and Arizona.
In 2002
CBI opened its third manufacturing facility
in Greensboro, NC. This plant will serve
North and South Carolina, Virginia, West
Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland,
